Volunteer and Job Opportunities for Teens

Do you know a teen who wants to get involved at the Headquarters Library? Check out these volunteer and employment opportunities that are open to teens!

Teens can have their voice heard by becoming a member of the Teen Advisory Group (TAG)! TAG meets the second Thursday of every month to provide input on teen programs, materials, and contests. One of the (many!) fun decisions TAG makes is choosing our yearly Teen Summer Reading logo.  Show up to any meeting to see what TAG’s all about and earn volunteer credit for attending.

Teens interested in volunteering with the Teen Department can participate in Volunteens! Open Volunteen hours are every Saturday from 9-11am and are limited to the first 3 teens. Teens can also schedule a time to volunteer that works with their schedules. Applications can be found here or in the Teen Hub.

Another great (but more competitive!) opportunity is the Teen Department Internship. The intern works in the Teen Hub of the Headquarters Library for a four month period and receives a $500 stipend upon completion of the internship. The intern helps with programs, contributes social media content, writes a book review, and helps keeps the collection tidy. At the end of the internship, the intern also gets to plan and run their very own program! There are three internship cycles a year: January-April, May-August, and September-December. We only hire one intern per cycle, so put your heart into the application! To apply teens must be 14-18 years old. More information can be found here or in the Teen Hub.

Finally, if a teen wants to work in the Library and loves alphabetizing, they might like being a Page. Pages are responsible for re-shelving returned materials, looking for missing items, and much more. Teens must be at least 16 years old and have completed 10th grade in order to apply. Keep your eyes peeled for open Page positions on the Jobs page of our website.

More information about these opportunities can be found at www.spartanburglibraries.org. You can also call 864-596-3506, email teens@infodepot.org, or stop by the Teen Hub with any questions. Find and follow @scplteens on Instagram or Facebook to stay in the loop! You can also sign up for program text notifications by texting @scplteens to 81010.

We hope to see you at the Library!
